Q. What if my regular insurance says I have Mexican Coverage?
Although some insurance companies state they have Mexican coverage this usually means within 25 miles of the border. If you stay within those 25 miles and something occurs either an accident or theft your company might cover the expenses however US insurance WILL NOT provide any type of Mexican liability insurance, which is required by Mexican authorities. So if you cause any damages to third parties, your US insurance won’t provide any coverage.
Bottom line, you do not want to find yourself in a foreign country police station, debating the exact legal fine points of what is, or is not, covered under your American Insurance policy.
