There are two basic types of coverage, Liability and Physical Damage.
Liability covers you against damage you do to other people’s cars, property and or Personal Injury.
and yes your liability transfers to a rental car and no additional cost.
Physical Damage, often called “Full Coverage,” is insurance that protects your own car, against damages due to Fire Theft, Collision or vandalism. This is just for the car listed on your policy-
This part does not switch over to a rental car, unless the rental was provided by your insurance company as a temporary replacement while they are repairing your auto.
