Car Insurance, Cicero, Il

by Larry Lubell

Cicero was formed back in 1849, named after the first century’s great Roman statesman ,Marcus Tullius Cicero.  When Cicero was incorporated, the city was aproximently 36 sq miles. It’s aera was so large and so close to the more powerfull Chicago, that By 1889, Chicago had annexed more than half of the original territory of Cicero. Weak governments coupled with corruption, resulted in more and more of Cicero spitting off and forming separate towns.

On July 21, 1899, the famed writer, and Nobel prize winner Ernest Hemingway, was born within the Town of Cicero. But don’t look for his old house in Cicero, because In 1901, that part of the Cicero spit off to form Village of Oak Park, along with Berwyn.

Durring the Prohibition Era of the 1920s &1930s. Al Capone moved his operation into Cicero to escape the Chicago police, and federal agent Eliot Ness. This helped give Cirero the reputation as a “Anything-goes Town”

The current population of Cicero is 109,429,  boosted in part by an increase in the cities Hispanic population. Urban Insurance has been writing insurance for the people of Cicero  since 1961.
