SR-22 (or SR22) is actually the name of the form used by insurance companies to notify the state that an insured has the required insurance coverage. People will sometime refer this car insurance as SR-22, SR Filing, or sometimes as just “filing” insurance. While car insurance is mandatory in Illinois, most drivers are not required to purchase SR22 insurance. However, if you are required to file an SR22 then an auto insurance company must submit the form in order to remove a suspension order placed by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office on your driving privileges. The reason for the filing is to provide a certification to the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles that your auto insurance company has issued a policy of at least the required minimum liability coverage, and that your auto insurance company will notify the Illinois Secretary of State should the car insurance ever lapse for any reason.
Why Should You Choose Urban Insurance Agency?
Quite simply: experience and convenience. Urban Insurance has specialized in writing SR-22 policies for the past 4 decades. We’ll get your car insurance started quickly and we’ll even handle the necessary paperwork and filings with the Secretary of State for the states of Illinois, Indiana & Michigan, to make the process easy for you. The short answer is yes.
The cost of any insurance policy is based on two variables, how much would the company need to pay in the event on a loss, and what is the likelihood of that loss happening.
If your car is very expensive to repair or replace, your insurance company is going to need to charge you more money. If you are a young driver, or have a bad motor vehicle report (MVR), the insurance company is going to believe that the odds of them paying a claim are greater, and again the company is going to reflect that level of risk in their rate they charge you.
For liability only policies, the Auto seldom makes any difference.
At Urban Insurance Agency, we welcome your calls. If you are planning on getting a new car, please give us a call first and we will be happy to provide you with a quote before you buy the car.

We have Been Providing personal customer service for our customers for more than 49 years.
We recognize that our customers have many options when they are picking an insurance agency; so we work hard to earn your your business.
You can’t turn on a TV or radio, read a newspaper, or click your way through the internet,; without being bombarded of stories of banks and finance companies being far less quick to loan money. After years where it seemed banks would give a large home loan to anyone with a pulse; those same institutions are under enormous pressure to limit loans to anyone preseved as being a higher–risk.
As lenders increase the selectivness of who meets their new standards, a higher credit score has become a necessity in obtainilng credit period. What fewer people realize is the dramtic impact that your credit score can have on your Auto insurance rates.
“Credit impacts every element of your life,” says Adam Levin, co-founder and chairman of Credit.com, a consumer advocacy website. “The stronger your credit, the easier it is to get the things you want.”
Whenever you’re applying for health, life, or auto insurance, many companies will pull your credit report when you apply for insurance. Progressive, Geico, State Farm and Allstate all run your credit report prior to starting your coverage, and each of them state that they have studies that have linked poor credit with higher claims and or a greater frequency of insurance claims. Insurance companies not wanting to lose money ; yet opporationg in a very competitive markiet place utalize credit scores as a means of selection. — if you’re score is deemed not a safe bet for them, they’ll surscarge your rates. The surcharge connected to a low credit score can be larger than the charge for Drunk driving.
Do you Run Credit Checks? / Do you Need my Social Security Number?
No, We do not need to run your credit: therefore poor or less than perfect credit does not effect your rates. Unlike many insurance companies today we can offer you auto insurance without “Running your credit”. Since we do not put your credit report: we have no need to ask for your social security number

Although some insurance companies state they have Mexican coverage this usually means within 25 miles of the border. If you stay within those 25 miles and something occurs either an accident or theft your company might cover the expenses however US insurance WILL NOT provide any type of Mexican liability insurance, which is required by Mexican authorities. So if you cause any damages to third parties, your US insurance won’t provide any coverage.
Bottom line, you do not want to find yourself in a foreign country police station, debating the exact legal fine points of what is, or is not, covered under your American Insurance policy.
If you have a question, please contact us at 1-800-680-0707.
Do I need a Mexican car permit?
Only if you plan to drive in mainland Mexico beyond the border areas, or plan to transport a vehicle by ferry from Baja California to mainland Mexico. Permits are not required for travel on the Baja California peninsula. Car permits cost between $32.00 and $49.50 and you can obtain them at any Mexican Consulate.
What is a liability-only policy?
A liability-only policy will cover damages you cause to third parties. Unlike a full coverage policy, liability-only does not cover physical damage or total theft of your vehicle. Our liability-only policies also include medical payments for occupants of your vehicle, legal aid, bail bond, and roadside assistance (for most vehicles). Keep in mind the majority of drivers in Mexico do not have insurance. If you purchase a liability-only policy and are hit by an uninsured driver, the policy will not cover damages to your vehicle.
What is a full coverage policy?
A full coverage policy covers physical damage and total theft (deductibles apply) of your vehicle. A full coverage policy also includes a liability limit to cover damages you may cause to third parties, medical payments for occupants of your vehicle, legal aid and bail bond, and roadside assistance (for most vehicles).
What do I do in the event of an accident or theft?
Ana Seguros has a 24/7 toll-free number with highly trained bilingual staff that will be gladly to help you with the procedure of filing your claim.
YOU MUST REPORT YOUR CLAIM WHILE IN MEXICO, or your claim could be denied
What if my regular insurance says I have Mexican coverage?
Although some insurance companies state they have Mexican coverage this usually means within 25 miles of the border. If you stay within those 25 miles and something occurs either an accident or theft your company might cover the expenses however US insurance WILL NOT provide any type of Mexican liability insurance, which is required by Mexican authorities. So if you cause any damages to third parties, your US insurance won’t provide any coverage.

Question: I went to court in Hammond because I was caught driving without Proof Of Insurance. The judge told me I needed to show proof of SR22; what is an SR22?
SR-22 is actually the name of the form used by insurance companies to notify the state that an insured has the required insurance coverage. As a result people will often refer this type of car insurance as SR-22, or FR Filing.
The law in Indiana states the following:
When a motorist’s operator license is suspended upon conviction of a major offense, that driver must submit proof of insurance to the BMV before being reinstated. This filing provides that the driver has an auto liability policy in effect that cannot be canceled without prior notice. A valid SR-22 Proof of Insurance form must be filed with the BMV for three years after the end of the suspension. If the BMV receives a cancellation notice or does not have a current SR-22 form on file at any time during the three-year period after reinstatement, the motorists driving privileges will become suspended again.
This is why it is critical that you find an insurance agency that is equipped to issue Same - Day SR22 Insurance. If you are required to file an SR22, then your insurance company must submit the correct form in order to remove a suspension order placed by the Indiana Secretary of State’s office. The filing is needed to provide a certificate to the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles that your insurance company has issued a policy of at least the required minimum liability coverage, and that your insurance company will notify the Indiana Secretary of State’s office should the insurance ever lapse for any reason.

Strictly speaking, life insurance is not an investment, but it is an important foundation for one’s investment strategies.
If you were in your 20s or 30s and somehow had a “Guarantee that you would live past 80; Then you would better off putting the amount of the premium away each month rather than buy the insurance. The problem with that logic is that “Life does not come with guarantees.” No other “investment” comes not only with a guarantee but with the full value on day one.
Sometimes things do work-out quite the way we plan. It might be helpful to Think of Life Insurance as “Plan B.” Once you have purchased a sufficient amount of Life Insurance to Replace your income after you are “Gone”, you can then build a long term investment strategy free from worrying about how your family will be able to cover their bills.
At Urban Insurance Agency, we can do filings to the Secretary of State for the states of Illinois, Indiana & Michigan. We can file the forms electronically, or give you a hard copy for you to walk into the Secretary of States office and present.

First, always keep an inexpensive disposable camera in your glove compartment to take pictures of the vehicles, the scene, and the people involved. This helps prove who was actually there. Don’t be shy about using it! Make sure your current proof of Insurance is in your glove compartment at all times. (It’s also the Law). Make sure you get all the relevant details from the other person, or persons, involved.
At the very least you need:
- Their name, address and phone number
- The name of their Insurance Company
- The make, model and year of car
- List of damage to cars involved including your car
You should then file an insurance claim, even if another driver caused the damage. You can do this by contacting us by phone at 312-664-8088. Also, you should immediately report the loss to the police if your vehicle is damaged by a hit-and-run driver, or if you suspect vandalism or theft. Without a police report, your insurance company could deny your claim.

This is insurance which in in force when you are driving home off duty, or getting the truck serviced. This is your people that are leased on to a carrier, use that companies ICC # and who are covered by that carrier while delivering goods, loading/ unloading, and doing work for the carrier.
How much insurance a person needs to carry is directly connected to the amount of your yearly income.
The purpose of life insurance is to help replace the income, to the family, lost when the wage earner dies. If you have people who are dependent on your income while you are alive, odds are they will still need much of that income after your gone. If your check is what pays the rent, the car, the electric bill, your spouse and or children, will still need to pay those bills, but you will know longer be bringing the money home. That is where life insurance plays such a critical role.
To figure out how much insurance you will have to purchase, begin by marking down the amount of your total family income. Under that figure mark your income, then subtract write the difference down on the page. Then calculate the amount of money that you yourself spend and bills that will not continue after your gone (For example your family might need one few cars, the cost of YOUR food, clothes, club dues etc.) subtract that cost from the above figure.
Contact the Department of Social Security, and inquire how much income will come from that source, deduct that amount from the above figure.
If you have any pension plans, retirement accounts and or life insurance at work, calculate the yearly income that could be earned from the interest on those monies (Total Dollars X 5% = Approximate yearly income), subtract that amount from the above figure.
The amount that you are left with is what your dependents will be short each year.
Take that number and multiply it by 20- that is the amount of insurance you will need. Or another way to figure is $200,000 insurance for each $10,000 of income you need to replace.
Traffic tickets are one of the things that show up on your motor vehicle report (MVR), but not the only thing.
The short answer is “The more tickets you have, the more you pay for car insurance. However, your MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) is only one factor impacting the rate of your insurance. All insurance rates, no matter what type, are based on three basic factors, Fixed costs, the amount of a potential loss, and the likelihood a loss will occur.
The fixed costs are the amount it costs to produce a policy. A company has to have a building, electric service, personal to enter the data, postage etc. These costs are, for the most part, unaffected by risk factors. The cost to process a policy is the same regardless of whether the risk is low or high.
The larger the amount of money an insurance company is on the hook for, the larger the premium they will need to collect. If an insured steps out one morning and finds that their 2002 Ford Taurus has been stolen, the insuring company’s exposure is $8,000. Imagine now that the missing vehicle is a 2006 Ferrari Enzo, suddenly the potential loss is over $1,000,000.00.
An equally important factor is “What is the likelihood a loss will occur?” Here is where tickets matter! Years of collecting data have shown that the more tickets one has, the greater the chance they will be involved in an accident. Younger drivers, will pay more than middle-aged drivers. Sports cars tend to cost more to insure than sedans. Cars that are frequently stolen, cost more to insure than lower risk autos.
All tickets are not equal. Parking tickets, improper display of license plates, do little to effect your rates. Speeding, stop sign violations, improper turns will increase your premium. Major violations such as DUI and reckless driving will drastically effect your rates and might prevent many companies from insuring you.
At Urban Insurance Agency, we can always get you covered, but a bad MVR will impact your rates.
Yes. At Urban Insurance Agency, poor credit or no credit is never a problem!
More and more companies are running credit checks prior to providing an insurance quote. For example, Progressive, Geico car insurance, State Farm and esurance.com, are among a list of carriers that will not provide an insurance quote without first pulling your credit report.
The cost of bad credit can often be greater than having several tickets on your driving record.

The answer is Yes and No. Even with a full-coverage car insurance policy, everything in your car isn’t necessarily covered.
Insurance companies make a distinction between “Standard equipment” and “Custom equipment,” Equipment that was factory installed is considered “Part of the auto” and is covered, “Custom equipment” is a different matter. Do not assume that custom equipment is covered!
Always check with your agent and be specific.
Also remember to keep receipts and pictures to support a future possible claim.
Contents not permanently installed in your car ARE NOT COVERED. This includes thing like CDs, clothing and yes a laptop. These items should be covered on your homeowner’s policy.
It is important to remember that there is not one policy that will cover all of your insurance needs. Different risks will require different separate insurance policies. The most common policies that individuals will need are Auto, Homeowners/Renters, Health and life insurance. Each of these products protect an individual from separate and also critical exposures.
Auto insurance has two basic parts; LIABILITY which covers the damages you do to others, and PHYSICAL DAMAGE (sometimes called Comp. and collision), which covers your own car for damage.
Life Insurance is designed to help replace the income, to the family, lost when the wage earner dies.
Health insurance is clearly designed to cover the high costs involved in getting sick. The average cost of a hospital visit is over $8,000, but stay for a week and the price tag can quickly reach $30,000, $40,000 or more. If fact, medical bills for long term treatment of cancer or diabetes can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. It is for that reason that many major medical plans will have lifetime benefits of $1,000,000 - $5,000,000.
Homeowner’s insurance covers damage done to your home, but also will cover the contents inside, as well as provide liability coverage against people slipping or in any other way, being hurt on your property. Homeowner policies are where miscellaneous property such as a bicycle, a guitar and your clothes are covered. Keep in mind there are definite limits spelled out in each policy.

From their August 24, 2008 Press Release:
Jesse White and MADD’s Innovative DUI Legislation Signed Into Law Legislation that cracks down on drunk drivers was signed into law today by Governor Rod Blagojevich. The new law is the result of joint efforts among Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Secretary of State Jesse White, and the legislation»s sponsors: Senator John Cullerton (D-Chicago) and Representative Robert Molaro (D-Chicago).
The law requires all first-time DUI who wish to obtain driving relief during the period of statutory summary suspension to install on their vehicles a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID). Motorists are required to blow into the BAIID, which measures their blood alcohol content levels. The device is designed to prevent DUI offenders from driving after having consumed alcohol.
“This is a new and innovative approach to deal with a very serious traffic safety issue,” said Secretary White. “Statistics show breath alcohol ignition interlock devices are very effective in preventing subsequent DUI offenses. As Secretary of State, my office will continue to do everything within its power to make the roads of Illinois as safe as possible.”
New Mexico implemented a similar law nearly two years ago and experienced in the first year a 12 percent reduction in alcohol related-fatalities. Moreover, studies show BAIIDs are effective in reducing subsequent offenses by up to 90 percent while on the vehicle.
“This is one of the most important pieces of DUI legislation passed in Illinois in several years because ignition interlocks stop vehicles from being driven by those who are drunk,” said Glynn Birch, national president of MADD. “Illinois continues to raise the bar for other states. MADD applauds the state of Illinois for protecting its motorists from the dangers of drunk driving.”
The law also increases the length of the statutory summary suspension from three months to six months for those offenders that failed the breath alcohol test at time of arrest and from six months to 12 months for those offenders that refused the breath alcohol test at time of arrest.
In addition, the law eliminates Judicial Driving Permits (JDPs) for first-time DUI offenders, and instead requires those offenders who wish to drive to install the BAIID before driving relief is granted. DUI offenders will be monitored during the entire time the BAIID is installed in their vehicles.
DUI offenders who cause death, great bodily harm, are under age 18 or have a prior conviction of reckless homicide are ineligible for driving relief.
“I would like to commend MADD for this initiative,” said White. “They are working to enact similar legislation throughout the country in an effort to prevent the senseless tragedies caused by drunk driving.”
The law goes into effect January 1, 2009.

The first step in shopping for a car insurance policy is to understand the parts that make up a typical Personal Auto Insurance policy.
A basic auto insurance policy usually includes six coverages (or parts).
- Bodily Injury Liability. Bodily Injury Liability pays for injuries that the covered drivers, cause to someone else. In Illinois the minimum limits are $20,000 per person and $40,000 total Bodily Injury per accident. In Indiana the limits are $25,000 per person and $50,000 total Bodily Injury per accident. It’s critical that you carry enough liability insurance, because if you find your self the cause of a serious accident, you could be sued for a significant amount of money. Medical bills arising from a serious accident, particularly if several people are hurt, will certainly exceed the basic mandatory limits. Please remember, you can be held responsible for damages in excess of your policy limits. Yes they can take your home or other assets. It is for this reason that people often opt to by higher limits.
- Property Damage Liability. Property Damage Liability pays for damage that the covered drivers, cause to someone else’s property. Examples include another car as well as damage you do a fuel pump, street light, guard rail, buildings or other structures your car hits.
- Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP). Medical Payments pays for the treatment of injuries to the driver.
- Comprehensive Coverage. Comprehensive Coverage Portion of an auto insurance policy that covers damage to the policyholder’s car not involving a collision with another car (including damage from fire, explosions, earthquakes, floods, and riots), and theft. This coverage is usually sold along with Collision coverage. State law does not require comprehensive and Collision coverages but if you have a car loan, it is likely your lender will require you carry both coverages it until your loan is paid off.
- Collision Coverage. Collision Coverage pays for damage to your car stemming from a collision with another car, object or as a result of your car colliding with the street. comprehensive and Collision coverages are written with a deductible. The higher your deductible, the lower your premium.
- Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage. UNINSURED MOTORISTS COVERAGE protects a policyholder from uninsured and hit-and-run drivers.
Now that you have an understanding of the parts that make up a typical Personal Auto Insurance policy you can get a rate based on the limits that you need.

No!
In almost all states, having a valid auto insurance policy is required. Even if you reside in one the few states that do not specifically demand you have an insurance policy, all states also have financial responsibility laws. This means that even if you live in a state that does not require a liability insurance policy, you still need to have sufficient assets to pay claims arising if you are the cause an accident. This does allow one with ample assets to “Self Insure”, though this is an extremely rare occurrence.
Overwhelmingly one who has enough money to set aside to “Self Insure” chooses not to purchase auto insurance.
If you don’t have adequate assets, you must buy at least the state minimum amount of insurance. For example of the state minimum limits for auto liability insurance. In Illinois the minimum limits are 20/40/15 or a limit of $20,000 for one individual, up to $40,000 coverage combined for all persons injured in an accident, and $15,000 coverage for property damage. In Indiana the limits are 25/50/10 In Mississippi they are 25/50/15.
Yes! Obviously insurance companies provide discounts to those drivers that have “clean” driving records: but we can find quality insurance for those drivers that have multiple violations on their (MVR) Motor Vehicle Report. Even if you have convictions for DUI, we still can find multiple carriers to select the best price.
