Insurance Requirements for DOT Filing

The first step in shopping for competitive prices on an insurance policy for your transportation company is to understand the types, and limits of insurance you are required to carry. There will likely be several separate entities that will demand you to submit proof that your company is insured, and that the coverage meets their set of conditions. These organizations include any company with whom you are contracted, the city, State, and the Federal government. Each of these groups can have different expectations.  The Insurance Requirements for DOT Filing are quite strict; so I have provided information from the FMCSA below.

We at Urban Insurance have the experience and resources to help you save money while guaranteeing that coverage meets the Insurance Requirements for Commercial Trucks. We have a A+ rating at the Better Business Bureau and we will search on one, but a variety of companies to find you the lowest rates for the coverage you need.

In addition to filing an application for operating authority, all applicants for motor carrier, freight forwarder, and broker authorities must have specific insurance and legal process agent documents on file before the FMCSA will issue the authorities. The required filings vary, based on the types of registrations involved. Below is a list of pre-registration forms, followed by an explanation of which types of registrants are subject to filing those forms.

Insurance Requirements for DOT Filing

When sending the proof showing you are in compliance with The Insurance Requirements for DOT Filing, it is critical you ensure that the name and address of the business marked on your pre-registration filings match exactly the name and address provided to your insurance agent.  Any deviation will result in rejection of the supplemental pre-registration filings, or a renewal of your filing.
